Get your texting number

Get your business's own number, toll-free or local, so customers can text you back and their replies and STOPs only reach you.

Your own number means your customers' replies and STOPs only ever reach you. Owners and admins can ask for it.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Text messages.
  2. Tap Get my texting number.
  3. Pick Toll-free (faster) or Local (your area code).
  4. Check your business details, address and contact. Most businesses need their EIN saved in Settings → Business first.
  5. Tap Send for verification.

Why texting isn't instant

Phone carriers check every business before it may text customers, and they block numbers that aren't verified yet. While yours is checked, your automatic texts still go out from Utopia's notification line, and you can reply to customers with Text from my phone.

  • Toll-free: a number starting 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888. Verification is free and usually takes a few days.
  • Local: a number in your own area code. Utopia registers your business with the carriers; this takes about 1–2 weeks. Carriers charge registration fees for local numbers (about $4 for the brand, $15 for vetting and $2–10 a month).

The Text messages page shows where it stands: Requested, Being verified, then On.

Didn't work?

It says Needs changes

The carriers didn't approve it yet. Read the reason on the page, tap Fix and send again and correct what they asked for.

I don't see the button

Only owners and admins can ask for the number. Ask yours.
