Connect Stripe

Stripe lets customers pay you by card online, for invoices and for deposits when they book. The money goes into your Stripe account and pays out to your bank on Stripe's schedule. Utopia never sees card numbers.

Do I need a Stripe account?

Only if you want customers to pay by card online. You can use Square instead. Cash, check, Zelle, Venmo and Cash App don't need either one; you record those yourself. No Stripe account yet? You make one free on Stripe's page while you connect. It takes about 10 minutes. Have your bank info and ID ready.

Before you start

• Only owners and admins can connect or disconnect Stripe.
• New to Stripe? Have your business and bank details ready. Stripe asks for them.

Steps

1. Go to Settings → Connected apps. On your phone, tap More, then Settings, then Connected apps.
2. On the Stripe card, tap Connect Stripe. Stripe's settings page in Utopia opens.
3. Tap Connect Stripe again. Stripe's own page opens in the same tab.
4. Sign in to Stripe, or create an account there.
5. Pick the account for this business and press "Connect" on Stripe's page.
6. Stripe sends you back to Utopia. The badge says Connected once Stripe can take payments and pay out to your bank.

Check that Stripe is ready

Under What Stripe has turned on you'll see Card payments, Payouts to your bank and Business details sent to Stripe. Each one says On or Not yet. If any say Not yet, tap Finish setup in Stripe and add what Stripe asks for.

If you also use Square

Only one of them takes your online payments. If both are connected, Stripe is used until you pick. The Stripe page says which one is used, with a button to switch.

Disconnect Stripe

Tap Disconnect, then confirm. Your Stripe account and past payments stay yours.

Didn't work?

I don't see the Connect Stripe button

Your role can't change connected apps. Ask the owner or an admin to connect it.

The badge says Finish setup

Stripe needs more details before it can take payments or pay you out. Tap Finish setup in Stripe and fill in what it asks for. Then come back and reload the page.

Stripe didn't connect

Tap Connect Stripe again and finish every step on Stripe's page without closing it. A Stripe account that another Utopia business already uses can't be connected a second time.
